Meet Your Immigration Attorney

Jocabed Botello-Avelar is the founding and managing attorney at Global Immigration
Connection. She was born and raised in Long Beach, California to immigrant parents from
Mexico. She holds dual citizenship with Mexico. Jocabed graduated from California State
University Dominguez Hills with a double major in Political Science and Chicana Studies before
attaining her Juris Doctorate from Whittier Law School.

Jocabed’s passion for immigration started during her undergraduate career while interning at an
immigration non-profit. Her passion to serve the community continued when she taught
citizenship classes to those taking the exam in English and Spanish. Upon graduating law school,
she became a USCIS officer who adjudicated the O and P visa classification. After her time with
the Service, she has successfully prepared O, P, and EB1A classifications in the private sector.
Jocabed understands that every immigration is unique and is committed to addressing the needs
of each client directly and personally, guiding them through the complex regulations of the law.

Here are just a few types of individuals we work with:

Military Families

Military members have an immigration option for family members who entered the United States without authorization. The family members eligible for this benefit are a spouse, widow(er), parent, son or daughter of either an active duty member, individual in the Selective Service or Ready Reserve, or an individual who previously served.

Victims of Crimes

If you have been a victim of a qualifying crime, you may be eligible for a U-Visa. A U-Visa is a pathway to legal permanent resident status when you have cooperated with law enforcement and suffered mental and physical abuse as a result of the crime.

Spouses and Fiance

A U.S citizen may petition their spouse while spouse is living abroad. The U.S. Citizen also has options to petition their spouse if their spouse is already living in the United States. A U.S Citizen may also petition their fiance through embassy processing.

Professional Athletes

Athletic visas are available to those that want to enter the United States to compete in any major sports competition. If an athlete has achieved a Olympic medal or has played on a national team

Film and Television Arts Professionals

Film and Television professionals who have a demonstrated a record of extraordinary achievement in the motion or television industry may be eligible for an O visa. The related occupations include actors, producers, directors, just to name a few. Additionally, art professionals may be eligible for an O Visa when individuals have achieved a high level of distinction in the arts. The related occupations include chefs, visual artists, designers, musicians,
and dancers, to name a few.

Leaders in Business, Science or Education

Foreign nationals who have sustained national acclaim by having a record of extraordinary abilities in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics may be eligible for EB-1 first preference category.
